Ogun Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers Linked to Edo Hostage Killings, Recover Police Camouflage
The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of two suspected kidnappers allegedly linked to the abduction and murder of two hostages in the Okada area of Edo State.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command.
According to police authorities, the arrests followed extensive profiling and investigations after the suspects were initially detained by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and handed over to the police for further inquiries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case under investigation in Edo State. Security findings further indicated that the duo are allegedly members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate believed to have carried out the criminal operation.
During a search conducted by investigators, one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones were recovered from the suspects. The recovered items have been documented as exhibits and are expected to play a crucial role in ongoing investigations.
Police authorities disclosed that the alleged offences occurred outside Ogun State. Consequently, the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commending the efforts of the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism, intelligence gathering, and swift response that led to the identification of the suspects and recovery of critical evidence.
The police boss reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State does not serve as a safe haven for criminals seeking refuge or transit routes for unlawful activities.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen intelligence-driven policing, proactive security operations, and inter-state collaboration to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing criminal activities and enhancing public safety.
The latest development underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks operating across state boundaries and improve security throughout the Southwest and Nigeria as a whole.
