Osun 2026: Fadahunsi Clarifies ‘Kill Accord’ Remark, Says He Meant Defeat Party With Votes, Not Violence

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has clarified his controversial “Kill Accord” remark, insisting that his statement was intended as a political call to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box and not an endorsement of violence against its members or supporters.
The clarification followed the circulation of a viral video showing the senator addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The video generated controversy over remarks attributed to Fadahunsi concerning members of the Accord Party, prompting criticism and calls for security agencies to investigate the matter.
However, in a statement issued by his media office in Osogbo on Tuesday, Fadahunsi said his comments had been misunderstood, maintaining that the expression was political and metaphorical.
According to the statement, the senator’s intention was to encourage APC supporters to overwhelmingly reject and defeat the Accord Party at the polls through lawful, peaceful and democratic means.
Fadahunsi’s media team maintained that he did not advocate physical attacks, intimidation or violence against members of the Accord Party or any other political organisation.
The senator stressed that elections should be determined by the votes of the electorate rather than force, intimidation or violence.
He consequently appealed to political parties, candidates, supporters and voters to maintain peace and respect the law before, during and after the Osun governorship election.
Fadahunsi also called on security agencies to remain professional and impartial while ensuring that eligible voters are able to exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation.
According to him, the will of Osun people, freely expressed through the ballot box, should determine the outcome of the election.
The controversy had earlier prompted the campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to call on Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to investigate Fadahunsi’s remarks and take appropriate action.
Adeleke subsequently demanded the senator’s arrest and investigation, alleging that the comments represented a threat against Accord Party supporters.
Fadahunsi’s camp, however, rejected that interpretation, insisting that the senator remains committed to peaceful elections, democratic values, issue-based campaigns and a credible electoral process.
The development comes as political tension intensifies ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with major political parties making final efforts to mobilise voters across Osun State.
Fadahunsi urged supporters to channel their political energy towards winning votes peacefully, stressing that electoral victory should be secured at polling units through the democratic choices of Osun residents.
