The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has challenged the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to explain the developmental impact of what he said was about ₦650 billion received by the state in the last three and a half years.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, raised the issue during the Arise TV Town Hall Meeting in Osun State, where he outlined his plans for the state and responded to questions bordering on governance, public finance, economic development and the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The APC candidate argued that the substantial increase in financial resources available to Osun should have translated into greater infrastructure development, improved social services, stronger economic opportunities and better living conditions for residents.
According to Oyebamiji, Osun received significantly less revenue during the combined administrations of former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola than the amount he said had accrued to the state under the present administration.
“In 12 years of APC, Aregbesola and Oyetola, Osun got only ₦450 billion. In three and a half years of Adeleke, they have collected ₦650 billion. How does ₦650 billion match what we see in Osun today?” Oyebamiji asked.
He urged residents to look beyond political rhetoric and critically examine how available public resources have been utilised, insisting that increased revenue must ultimately produce measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.
Oyebamiji also disputed claims that the Adeleke administration inherited an empty treasury from the immediate past administration of Oyetola, maintaining that about ₦15 billion was left for the incoming government.
He argued that Osun’s financial position had improved considerably following increased allocations to states arising from economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
While acknowledging that some of the Federal Government’s reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, initially created economic difficulties for Nigerians, Oyebamiji said they had significantly increased resources available to federal, state and local governments.
He maintained that the central question for Osun residents should therefore be whether the increased revenue available to the state has produced development commensurate with the resources received.
The APC candidate also alleged an imbalance in the distribution of resources across the state, claiming that a disproportionate share of government resources was being concentrated in only two local government areas.
He said his administration, if elected, would pursue balanced development across Osun’s local governments and ensure that communities benefit fairly from public expenditure.
Oyebamiji promised to make transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources central to his administration.
He also pledged to prioritise economic expansion, investment attraction, youth employment and the creation of a business environment capable of supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue.
According to the APC candidate, Osun possesses enormous human and economic potential but requires leadership capable of converting increased government revenue into sustainable development, productive infrastructure and improved opportunities for residents.
He urged voters to assess candidates on their competence, economic programmes and capacity to manage public resources rather than relying solely on political promises.
With the Osun governorship election approaching, questions surrounding revenue, infrastructure, accountability and the management of public finances are increasingly becoming major campaign issues as political parties intensify efforts to convince voters.
Oyebamiji maintained that the election provides Osun residents with an opportunity to determine whether the resources available to government have been effectively utilised and to choose the leadership they believe can deliver greater economic and social development.
