EFCC Returns ₦125 Million to Lagos Land Fraud Victim
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over ₦125 million recovered from a land fraud case to the rightful owner, reaffirming its commitment to protecting victims of financial crimes and ensuring the recovery of stolen assets.
The anti-graft agency said the recovered funds were returned following the successful investigation and recovery process, which established the victim’s ownership of the money lost through a fraudulent land transaction. The development underscores the EFCC’s resolve to secure justice for victims while intensifying its fight against property-related fraud.
Speaking during the handover, EFCC officials reiterated the Commission’s determination to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in land scams, warning fraudsters that the agency would continue to track illicit proceeds and recover assets obtained through criminal activities.
The Commission also urged Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing landed property by conducting thorough due diligence, verifying ownership documents, and dealing only with licensed professionals and legitimate property developers to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
The recovery and restitution highlight the EFCC’s broader efforts to combat economic and financial crimes, strengthen public confidence in the justice system, and ensure that victims of fraud receive appropriate restitution whenever possible.
