Osun Governorship Election: NASFAT Urges Massive Voter Turnout, Says Every Vote Must Count

The Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) has urged residents of Osun State to reject voter apathy and participate actively in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, stressing that every eligible voter has a responsibility to help determine the future leadership and development of the state.
NASFAT President, Alhaji Ayodeji Abdulwahid Abdulrauf, made the call in a statement ahead of Saturday’s election, particularly appealing to young people, low-income earners and residents of disadvantaged communities to turn out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Abdulrauf warned that dissatisfaction or frustration with the political system should not discourage citizens from participating in elections, arguing that staying away from polling units effectively leaves important decisions about governance in the hands of those who choose to participate.
According to him, elections provide citizens with an important opportunity to influence policies affecting education, justice, civil rights, economic development and general welfare.
He maintained that Nigerians seeking political change must be prepared to participate in the democratic process rather than withdrawing because of disappointment with political leaders or institutions.
The NASFAT president also expressed concern about economic and social factors that could discourage some residents from voting, particularly people who depend on daily income and may find it difficult to leave their businesses or workplaces to participate in the election.
He argued that low participation among economically disadvantaged communities could further weaken their ability to influence government decisions affecting their lives.
Abdulrauf therefore encouraged residents who are dissatisfied with political leadership to express their position through the ballot box, stressing that voting remains one of the most powerful instruments available to citizens in a democracy.
“The future will be decided by those who show up,” he said, urging young people and economically vulnerable residents not to allow political apathy to silence their voices.
NASFAT also called on political parties, governorship candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, transparently and credibly.
Abdulrauf urged political actors to avoid conduct capable of undermining the electoral process, while calling on security agencies to provide adequate protection that would enable residents to vote without fear, intimidation or harassment.
He stressed that voters, irrespective of their social or economic status, should be allowed to freely exercise their franchise and have their votes counted.
The NASFAT president further appealed to Osun residents to participate peacefully and responsibly, describing the governorship election as an important opportunity to determine the direction of governance in the state.
He expressed hope that whoever emerges victorious would prioritise good governance, residents’ welfare and meaningful development across Osun State.
Abdulrauf also prayed for a peaceful election and for the emergence of a leader capable of delivering impactful development and improving the lives of the people.
