Police Smash Kidnap Syndicate Luring Victims with Fake Job Offers in Rivers
Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have dismantled a kidnapping syndicate that specialised in luring unsuspecting victims from different parts of the country with fake job offers before abducting them.
The gang reportedly targeted individuals through social media platforms, advertising non-existent employment opportunities and convincing victims to travel to Rivers State for supposed interviews or job placements.
Upon arrival, the victims were allegedly abducted and held hostage while the criminals demanded ransom from their families. The syndicate also used deceptive tactics, including posing as reputable employers and using false identities to gain trust.
The breakthrough came after police operatives launched a targeted operation based on credible intelligence. Several suspects were arrested during the raid, while victims linked to earlier abductions were rescued.
Investigations revealed that the group had been operating across multiple states, exploiting job seekers who were desperate for employment. The suspects are also believed to have used online platforms to reach a wide pool of potential victims.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang and dismantle other related criminal networks operating in the region.
Authorities have advised members of the public to be cautious of job offers circulating on social media, especially those requiring relocation or upfront commitments, urging verification before engagement.
