Ogun 2027: Ladies Democratic Group Faults Amosun’s Senate Record, Calls for Fresh Representation
A new dimension has been added to the growing political debate in Ogun Central as the Ladies Democratic Group of Ogun Central has openly opposed any move to return former Governor and Senator Ibikunle Amosun to the National Assembly in 2027.
In a statement issued by its President, Adeola Shobukola, the group acknowledged Amosun’s past contributions as governor but expressed strong dissatisfaction with his performance as a senator, describing it as underwhelming and lacking in tangible impact on Ogun Central.
According to the group, while Amosun may have made visible strides during his tenure as governor, his time at the National Assembly did not translate into meaningful development for the district. They challenged the former senator to publicly present his legislative scorecard, insisting that Ogun Central deserves accountability and measurable results.
“We recognize his role as a former governor, but governance at the national level requires a different kind of effectiveness. During his time in the Senate, Ogun Central did not witness the level of representation and development expected. It is important for him to present his scorecard,” the statement read.
The group maintained that the continued push for his return reflects a pattern of recycling leadership without due consideration for performance, warning that such a move could stall progress in the district.
They further emphasized the need for a shift towards new and capable hands, noting that Ogun Central is blessed with competent individuals who can deliver more effective representation if given the opportunity.
“Ogun Central cannot continue on this path. We need fresh leadership that understands the current realities and can drive meaningful change. It is time to allow others to serve,” Shobukola stated.
The group also cautioned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level against being influenced by large gatherings or public displays of support, noting that such events do not necessarily reflect the true sentiments of the people.
They concluded that many residents of Ogun Central are eager for a new direction, stressing that the 2027 elections present an opportunity to reset the political narrative and usher in leadership that is more responsive, accountable, and forward-looking.
As political activities gradually build up ahead of the elections, the call for performance-based representation and leadership renewal continues to gain traction across Ogun State.
