Remi Tinubu Expands Food Relief Programme to Ondo, Supports Vulnerable Households
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme to Ondo State, delivering food relief to vulnerable residents as part of ongoing efforts to combat hunger, food insecurity and child malnutrition. The intervention reached persons with disabilities, widows, senior citizens and other disadvantaged groups across the state.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady said the food outreach complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing practical support to low-income families and improving access to nutritious food. She explained that the programme is sustained through monthly donations from strategic partners, including the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), which supplied the food items distributed in Ondo State.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Akure, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the initiative as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians. He said the programme aligns with his administration’s OUR EASE Development Agenda, which prioritises social welfare, food security and improved living conditions for residents.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government and development partners to expand social intervention programmes across the state. He noted that improved access to food would help reduce hardship, enhance child nutrition and strengthen community resilience.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that alleviate poverty, improve livelihoods and build resilient communities through strategic investments in health, education and social development.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Food Outreach Programme, launched in 2024, has continued to expand across Nigeria, providing food assistance to vulnerable households while supporting the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reduce hunger, improve nutrition and promote inclusive social development.
