Ekiti Poll: SDP Rejects Withdrawal Rumours, Confirms Isaac Alade Remains in Governorship Race
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed reports claiming it withdrew from the Ekiti State governorship election, insisting that its candidate remains firmly in the race and listed on the ballot for the crucial poll.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, the SDP described the withdrawal reports as false, misleading, and the handiwork of political opponents seeking to create confusion among voters ahead of the election. The party maintained that its governorship candidate, Ambassador Isaac Alade, remains the duly nominated flag bearer and is actively participating in the electoral contest.
According to the party, its candidate was officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and participated in the peace accord signing organized ahead of the election, a development it said confirms his status as a legitimate contender.
The SDP urged voters and supporters across Ekiti State to disregard any information suggesting that the party had stepped down from the race, stressing that it remains committed to providing a credible alternative platform for the electorate.
The party also expressed concerns over alleged difficulties encountered in uploading the names of its polling unit agents, claiming that the situation could affect the transparency and credibility of the electoral process if not addressed.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic governance, the SDP stated that it remains focused on contesting the election and advancing its vision for the people of Ekiti State. The party called on supporters to remain calm, vigilant, and participate peacefully in the electoral process.
The clarification comes amid heightened political activities and competing narratives ahead of the governorship election, with political parties intensifying efforts to secure support across the state.
