Wike Accuses Amaechi of Orchestrating Jonathan’s 2015 Election Defeat
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of playing a key role in the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election.
Speaking during a media interaction, Wike alleged that Amaechi’s political actions and influence within the opposition at the time significantly contributed to Jonathan’s loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He maintained that the former Rivers governor was instrumental in mobilising political support that ultimately ended Jonathan’s administration.
Wike said the events leading to the 2015 general election demonstrated Amaechi’s determination to remove Jonathan from office, insisting that history should accurately reflect the role played by key political actors during the period.
The FCT minister also revisited the long-standing political rivalry between himself and Amaechi, accusing the former minister of making misleading public statements about past political developments in Rivers State and at the national level.
The renewed exchange of words underscores the enduring political differences between the two Rivers politicians, whose rivalry has shaped the state’s political landscape for more than a decade. Their latest comments come as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
