Presidency Exposes Fake Presidential Council, Says Internal Checks Foiled Fraud Scheme
Abuja – The Presidency has disclosed that its internal verification and compliance mechanisms exposed an alleged fraudulent scheme involving individuals who falsely claimed to be operating a presidential council under the authority of the Federal Government.
According to presidential officials, the discovery was made during routine internal checks, which revealed that the so-called council had no legal recognition, presidential approval, or affiliation with the Office of the President.
The Presidency stressed that the alleged organisation was never established by the Federal Government and described its operators as impostors who sought to deceive members of the public by falsely presenting themselves as representatives of the Presidency.
Officials further explained that the suspect at the centre of the matter is already facing criminal prosecution over allegations of fraud, warning Nigerians against dealing with unauthorised groups or individuals claiming to act on behalf of the Presidency.
The government reaffirmed that all legitimate presidential committees, councils, and advisory bodies are formally constituted through official government procedures and publicly announced through recognised channels.
The Presidency urged citizens, corporate organisations, and government agencies to verify the authenticity of any organisation claiming presidential backing before engaging with it, emphasizing that internal oversight systems remain effective in identifying and exposing fraudulent activities.
It also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and protecting Nigerians from individuals who exploit the name of the Presidency for personal gain, assuring the public that anyone found involved in such fraudulent activities would face the full weight of the law.
