DSS Targets High-Impact Cybercrime Cases to Deter Criminals
The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced a renewed strategy to combat cybercrime by focusing on high-impact cases capable of sending a strong deterrent message to criminal networks operating within and outside Nigeria.
Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, said the agency is committed to strengthening national security by targeting sophisticated cybercriminals whose activities threaten the country’s financial system, critical infrastructure and digital economy.
According to the DSS chief, cybercrime has become one of the fastest-growing security threats, with criminals exploiting evolving technology to carry out financial fraud, identity theft, cyber espionage and attacks on public and private institutions.
He explained that the Service is adopting intelligence-driven investigations, enhanced digital forensics and stronger collaboration with local and international law enforcement agencies to identify, track and prosecute major cybercrime syndicates.
Ajayi stressed that concentrating on high-impact cases would not only disrupt organised cybercriminal networks but also serve as a warning to individuals involved in online criminal activities.
He urged Nigerians, businesses and financial institutions to strengthen their cybersecurity measures and promptly report suspicious online activities to relevant authorities.
The DSS boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s cyberspace, maintaining public confidence in digital transactions and supporting efforts to build a secure digital economy through effective enforcement of cybercrime laws.
