Security Agencies Summon Six Individuals in Terror Financing Probe
Nigerian security agencies have invited six individuals for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged terrorism financing, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle financial networks supporting violent extremist groups.
The invitations followed intelligence reports linking the suspects to transactions believed to have aided the funding of terrorist activities in different parts of the country. The move is part of a broader strategy aimed at cutting off financial resources used by criminal and terrorist organisations.
Security sources said the investigation is being conducted in line with existing laws on terrorism financing and anti-money laundering, with investigators expected to examine financial records, business dealings and other relevant evidence.
The authorities stressed that the invitation for questioning does not amount to a declaration of guilt, noting that the individuals involved will be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations as investigations continue.
The probe is expected to involve collaboration among multiple security, intelligence and financial regulatory agencies to establish whether the suspects had direct or indirect links to individuals or organisations involved in terrorist activities.
Officials reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling terrorism through intelligence-led operations, stronger financial surveillance and the enforcement of laws designed to prevent the financing of violent extremism.
They also urged financial institutions, businesses and members of the public to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious financial transactions and activities that could be linked to terrorism or other organised crimes.
The latest development underscores Nigeria’s determination to strengthen national security by targeting not only those involved in terrorist attacks but also individuals and networks suspected of providing financial support to such groups.
