Emir Sanusi Urges Northerners to Take Ownership of Regional Security Challenges

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on people across Northern Nigeria to take greater responsibility for addressing the region’s persistent security challenges, stressing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved by depending on outsiders alone.
Speaking during a public engagement, the traditional ruler said insecurity in the North requires a homegrown response driven by community leaders, residents, and stakeholders who understand the region’s realities. He maintained that meaningful progress would only come when northerners unite and work collectively to confront the root causes of violence.
Sanusi noted that while the Federal Government and security agencies have important roles to play, local communities must also embrace responsibility by supporting peace initiatives, strengthening cooperation, and promoting dialogue among diverse groups.
He further urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, political officeholders, and community organisations to work together in tackling insecurity, warning that expecting external actors to solve the region’s problems without local commitment would not produce lasting results.
The emir reiterated that restoring peace in Northern Nigeria requires unity, accountability, and sustained collaboration among all stakeholders, emphasizing that the future of the region depends largely on the willingness of its people to confront their shared challenges together.
