President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a comprehensive salary increase of between 30 and 80 per cent for approximately 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve their welfare and strengthen national security.
The new salary structure, which covers officers and soldiers across the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, is expected to boost morale, enhance operational efficiency and improve the welfare of military personnel serving across the country.
Government officials said the pay review reflects the administration’s commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces, particularly those engaged in counter-insurgency, anti-banditry and other internal security operations. The salary adjustment forms part of broader reforms aimed at improving the conditions of service for military personnel.
The approval comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to modernise the Armed Forces through increased investment in military equipment, training, intelligence gathering and personnel welfare. Analysts believe improved remuneration could also enhance recruitment, retention and professionalism within the nation’s security agencies.
The Tinubu administration has repeatedly pledged to prioritise the welfare of security personnel, describing them as critical to Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other security threats. The latest salary increase is expected to take effect following the completion of the necessary implementation processes.
