Osun Election 2026: APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged AI-Generated Results, Cautions Accord Supporters
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over what it described as the circulation of false and allegedly AI-generated governorship election results, warning political parties and their supporters against announcing figures before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) completes the official collation process.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party accused some members and supporters of the Accord Party of circulating purported results from wards across the state.
The APC maintained that INEC remains the legally authorised institution responsible for conducting the election, collating results and making the official declaration of the outcome.
According to the party, figures circulating outside the official collation process should therefore not be presented to the public as final election results.
The APC expressed concern that the publication of unverified figures while collation was still ongoing could create confusion among voters and potentially heighten political tension in the state.
“The members of the public should therefore keep watch of the misinformation about the governorship results as such is capable of plunging the state into avoidable crisis,” the statement said.
The party further called on security agencies to investigate individuals allegedly responsible for deliberately circulating fabricated election results on social media.
APC also alleged that the dissemination of the figures appeared coordinated, claiming that some political actors were attempting to create a particular narrative around the election before the electoral commission concluded its work.
The party specifically accused some Accord supporters of allegedly deploying Artificial Intelligence tools to produce and circulate misleading election information. However, the APC did not provide independently verifiable evidence in the statement establishing that the disputed results were generated using AI, and there was no immediate independent confirmation of the allegation.
The APC consequently urged Governor Ademola Adeleke and Accord Party leaders to prevail on their supporters to allow INEC to complete the collation and announcement of results without interference.
It also called on its own members and supporters across Osun State to remain peaceful, avoid confrontation and disregard unofficial declarations circulating online.
“We are enjoining our members and supporters in the state and beyond to continue to go about their businesses in peace and refuse to be distracted,” the party stated.
With interest in the Osun governorship election results intensifying across Nigeria, attention remains on INEC’s official collation process. Political parties, candidates and members of the public are expected to rely on results formally announced by the electoral commission rather than unverified figures circulating through social media.
The APC’s intervention comes amid heightened anticipation over the outcome of the election, with supporters of the major candidates closely following results emerging from polling units and collation centres across Osun State.
Until INEC completes the statutory collation process and makes an official declaration, figures circulated by political parties, campaign organisations, media platforms or individuals remain unofficial.
