Religious Leaders Praise Uba Sani’s Inclusive Governance in Kaduna
Muslim and Christian leaders in Kaduna State have commended Governor Uba Sani’s approach to inclusive governance, citing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, development and fairness across the state.
The religious leaders spoke during a special interfaith dialogue organised by the Kaduna State Bureau of Interfaith at the Brigadier Abba Kyari Banquet Hall.
The meeting provided a platform for religious stakeholders to assess developments in Kaduna and discuss the state’s progress in peacebuilding and inclusion under the Sani administration.
Speaking at the event, Governor Uba Sani said his administration’s governance philosophy was built around justice, fairness and inclusiveness.
He said the objective was to ensure that residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, had a sense of belonging in the state.
According to the governor, Kaduna inherited significant divisions when his administration assumed office in 2023, making the promotion of trust and peaceful coexistence a priority.
He said the state’s diversity should be regarded as an advantage rather than a source of division.
The Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Caleb Ma’aji, praised the administration for projects and policies he said had benefited communities across the state.
Ma’aji highlighted the progress of major road projects, including the Nasarawa-UNTL-First Bank Road, PAN Drive-Television Garage-Sabon Tasha Road and Romi-Karatudu Road.
He also commended the governor for reintroducing Christian pilgrimage to Jordan and Jerusalem, noting that 50 Christians were sponsored for the pilgrimage.
The Secretary-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, described Sani as a peacemaker, linking the administration’s approach to the theme of the interfaith dialogue, which focused on peaceful coexistence and inclusivity.
Similarly, Sheikh Haliru Maraya cited measures in education and security as areas where he believed the administration had made progress.
He pointed to the reduction of tuition fees in Kaduna State-owned tertiary institutions and the reopening of schools previously affected by insecurity.
Maraya also said improved security had encouraged farmers who had abandoned their farmlands to return to cultivation.
In another intervention, the National Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop David Bakare, said his view of Governor Sani had changed after observing his administration’s activities.
Bakare disclosed that he did not support Sani during the 2023 governorship election because he was unfamiliar with the governor and his plans at the time.
He, however, said his subsequent assessment of the administration had influenced his current position ahead of another election.
Some of the religious leaders at the dialogue also expressed support for the continuation of the administration, citing what they described as progress in peace, infrastructure, education and religious inclusion.
The gathering brought together Muslim and Christian clerics and other stakeholders to discuss Kaduna’s experience with interfaith engagement and the prospects for sustaining peaceful coexistence in the state.
