Ondo State — The tragic Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has renewed calls for a thorough investigation into military aviation incidents, with the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Princess Kikelomo Ikuomola, urging authorities to establish what led to the accident and prevent a recurrence.
Ikuomola, who reacted to the crash on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, described the incident as a devastating loss to the Nigerian Air Force, the families of the affected personnel and the people of Ondo State.
The aircraft reportedly crashed in the Igbokoda area on Monday, October 5, leaving the nation mourning the loss of personnel who were engaged in national service.
For Ikuomola, the incident carries an added personal dimension because of her connection to Ilaje, saying the crash occurred in an area she considers home.
“As an indigene of Ilaje, this tragedy is particularly painful to me. Igbokoda is home, and it is deeply distressing to see such a devastating incident occur on our soil, involving brave men and women who dedicated their lives to the service and security of our nation,” she said.
Beyond expressing condolences, the Ondo government official stressed the importance of determining the circumstances surrounding the crash through a professional and transparent investigation.
She called on the relevant authorities to examine both the immediate and underlying factors that may have contributed to the incident, saying the findings should be used to strengthen aviation safety and reduce the possibility of similar tragedies.
Ikuomola also commended personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, other security agencies, emergency responders and residents of Igbokoda who took part in search and recovery efforts despite the challenging terrain around the crash site.
She said the response demonstrated the importance of cooperation between security agencies and local communities during emergencies, particularly in difficult-to-access areas.
The Special Adviser commiserated with the Nigerian Air Force and the families, colleagues and friends of the personnel who lost their lives, describing their commitment to national service as a sacrifice worthy of honour.
According to her, the affected personnel answered the call to serve Nigeria and contributed to the protection of the country’s territorial integrity.
“While no words can adequately ease the pain of losing a loved one in such circumstances, I pray that Almighty God will grant the bereaved families the strength and fortitude to bear this immeasurable loss and grant eternal rest to the departed,” she said.
The Igbokoda crash has once again highlighted the risks faced by military personnel in the course of carrying out their duties and the need for continuous attention to operational safety.
Ikuomola urged Nigerians to remember the fallen personnel not only for the circumstances of their deaths but also for the service they rendered to the country.
She further prayed for comfort and strength for the bereaved families and members of the Nigerian Air Force, expressing hope that the investigation into the crash would provide answers and useful lessons for the future.
She said the sacrifice of the personnel who lost their lives while serving Nigeria must not be forgotten.
