Labour Party Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South
The Labour Party has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria, effectively excluding aspirants from the North.
The party’s National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, announced the decision in Abuja, describing it as a settled position adopted by the leadership as part of preparations for the next general election.
She stressed that the party would not entertain presidential aspirants from northern Nigeria, reaffirming that the zoning arrangement is final. However, she noted that the eventual candidate would still emerge through a democratic primary process, with no individual pre-selected.
The leadership also revealed that a legal challenge against the party’s National Caretaker Committee had been dismissed for lacking merit, a development seen as strengthening the party’s internal structure.
In addition, the party hinted at a possible adjustment to its congress timetable, citing a surge in membership that may require more time to accommodate new entrants and ensure inclusiveness.
