Violence Rocks Delta APC Leaders’ Meeting as Internal Party Crisis Deepens
A leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District ended in chaos after violence broke out among party members, exposing fresh internal divisions within the ruling party in Delta State ahead of future political activities.
The meeting, held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Effurun, was convened to bring together APC leaders and stakeholders from across Delta Central. However, proceedings were abruptly disrupted when disagreements among participants escalated into a physical confrontation, forcing attendees to flee the venue for safety. Eyewitnesses said chairs and other objects were thrown as rival groups engaged in a free-for-all, while several persons reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the disturbance.
Videos circulating on social media captured scenes of panic as party members scrambled out of the conference hall amid the violence. One of the individuals reportedly affected was a Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Government, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the extent of injuries have not been officially confirmed.
Sources familiar with the development suggested that the violence may have been triggered by disagreements between rival factions over internal party issues. The incident has heightened concerns about cohesion within the Delta APC as the party prepares to strengthen its structures ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
Reacting to the incident, Delta State APC Publicity Secretary, Imonina Sylvester, said he was not present at the meeting and therefore could not comment on the circumstances that led to the disruption. Meanwhile, party members and political observers have called for reconciliation among stakeholders to prevent further crises and preserve unity within the party.
