Sesan Asani Reigns Supreme as Lagos Country Club Concludes 2025 WorkNigeria Squash Ladder Tournament


The atmosphere was electric at the Lagos Country Club as the 2025 edition of the WorkNigeria Squash Ladder Tournament came to an exciting close, crowning champions across various categories after nine days of intense competition and camaraderie.
Topping the Gold Ladder in the Men’s Category was none other than Mr. Sesan Asani, Chairman of the Squash Section, who reaffirmed his dominance on the court with a commanding performance. In the Veteran Category, Arc. Funmi Bamkole, Past President and respected Patron of the Section, claimed the top spot. Alaga Mike Adekoya, a former Chairman, clinched the Super Veteran title, while Mrs. Abiola Kolawole retained her reign as queen of the court in the Female Category.
This year’s edition recorded an impressive 287 games played, underscoring the sheer competitive spirit of the tournament. Mr. Marvin Ukperegbu emerged as the most active player, scooping the award for playing the highest number of games. Meanwhile, Bayo Solagbade earned recognition as the Most Improved Player.

President of Lagos Country Club, Mr. Seyi Adewunmi, praised the outstanding sportsmanship on display and commended the steady growth in the quality of play. “The energy, discipline, and commitment I’ve seen this year are truly commendable. I encourage the section to keep pushing the limits,” he remarked.
On the sponsorship front, Mr. Olufemi Oyebanjo, Managing Director of WorkNigeria, expressed delight over the huge turnout and members’ enthusiasm. “This aligns perfectly with our mission—building mentally and physically fit individuals ready for the labour market. Squash does both,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr. Alfred Idiodi, Executive Vice Chairman of WorkNigeria, pointed out major improvements in this year’s tournament, including the decision to award participation medals to every player, a gesture he promised will become a tradition moving forward.

Wrapping up the event, Mr. Sesan Asani thanked WorkNigeria for their unwavering support and promised even more exciting editions in the future. “Their commitment to the game is admirable. Together, we’ll keep growing squash in Lagos Country Club and beyond,” he stated.
