Nine Burned to Death in Cocaine Laboratory Explosion in Colombia
At least nine people were killed after a powerful explosion tore through an illegal cocaine production laboratory in southwestern Colombia, local authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred in the Narino region, an area close to the Pacific coast that is known for drug cultivation and the activities of armed criminal groups. According to officials, the blast sparked an intense fire that completely destroyed the makeshift facility, leaving several victims burned beyond recognition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder used during the drug production process. The highly flammable materials inside the laboratory reportedly fueled the fire, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
Security sources indicated that those killed were believed to be involved in the operation of the illegal drug lab. Some reports link the facility to armed dissident groups that continue to engage in narcotics trafficking despite Colombia’s peace agreement.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, while emergency services continue to assess the scene for possible hazards and additional casualties.
