Adeleke Alleges Police Moved Over 60 Accord Leaders to Abuja, Nasarawa Prisons

leke has accused the Nigeria Police Force of transferring more than 60 leaders of the Accord Party to correctional facilities in Abuja and Nasarawa State, describing the action as unlawful and politically motivated ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Adeleke made the allegation during a peace summit in Osogbo organised by the National Peace Committee, where political stakeholders gathered to commit to peaceful conduct before the election. The governor claimed that the affected party members were arrested in Osun State and moved outside the state despite the availability of competent courts within Osun to handle any criminal allegations.
According to the governor, those transferred include senior Accord Party leaders and a former House of Representatives candidate identified as Hon. Alaba. He questioned the legality of taking suspects from Osun to custodial centres in Abuja and Nasarawa, insisting that any person accused of committing an offence in the state should be arraigned before courts within Osun.
Adeleke also alleged that his administration and supporters had been subjected to sustained intimidation over the past three months. He claimed that at least eight members of the Accord Party had been killed while more than 20 others sustained injuries in separate attacks, lamenting that no meaningful arrests or prosecutions had followed the incidents.
The governor further referenced the recent arrest of the Secretary to the Osun State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, alleging that the operation was carried out without proper legal procedures. Although Igbalaye has since been released, Adeleke maintained that the incident formed part of a broader pattern of intimidation against members of his political family.
He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to order the return of the detained individuals to Osun State and ensure that, where there is evidence of wrongdoing, they are charged before competent courts within the state. Adeleke also called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Peace Committee to intervene to guarantee a peaceful, free and credible governorship election.
The allegations have heightened political tension in Osun as preparations intensify for the governorship poll. As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not publicly responded to Adeleke’s latest claims regarding the alleged transfer of the detained Accord Party members to correctional facilities outside Osun State.
