Nigeria, UK Deepen Security Partnership Against Terrorism, Cybercrime
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral security cooperation in a renewed effort to tackle terrorism, cybercrime, organized crime and other transnational security threats.
The renewed partnership was highlighted during a high-level engagement between officials of both countries, where they emphasized the need for stronger intelligence sharing, enhanced law enforcement collaboration and joint capacity-building initiatives. The discussions focused on addressing evolving security challenges, including terrorism financing, cyber-enabled crimes, human trafficking and cross-border criminal activities.
Both countries acknowledged that modern security threats require coordinated international responses. They pledged to expand cooperation in intelligence gathering, digital forensics, cybersecurity, criminal investigations and the prosecution of offenders. The partnership is also expected to strengthen institutional capacity through specialized training, technical support and the exchange of best practices between Nigerian and UK security agencies.
The Nigerian delegation reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to improve national security and protect critical infrastructure by leveraging strategic international partnerships. UK officials, in turn, reiterated their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism, violent extremism and cybercrime while promoting regional stability and the rule of law.
Security experts believe the renewed collaboration will enhance Nigeria’s ability to respond to emerging security threats, improve cyber resilience and reinforce the country’s fight against organized criminal networks operating within and beyond its borders.
