Iru Ekun Security Network Membership Exceeds 80,000 – Sunday Igboho
Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that the membership of the Iru Ekun Security Network has exceeded 80,000 operatives, describing the development as a strong indication of growing public support for community-based security initiatives across the South-West.
Igboho said the rapid expansion of the security network reflects the increasing determination of residents to safeguard their communities against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes. According to him, the organisation was established to complement existing security efforts by promoting vigilance, intelligence gathering and swift response to security threats at the grassroots level.
He maintained that the network is committed to protecting lives and property through lawful means, stressing that members are expected to work with discipline and respect for human rights. Igboho added that the group would continue to expand its presence in communities where residents seek additional support in tackling insecurity.
The activist urged members of the public to remain united in the fight against criminality, noting that security is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation between citizens, traditional institutions and relevant government agencies. He also called on members of the network to remain focused on their mandate and avoid actions capable of undermining peace and public order.
The announcement comes amid continued concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, with renewed calls for stronger community policing and greater collaboration between local security outfits and conventional security agencies. Supporters of the initiative believe grassroots participation can enhance intelligence gathering and improve the overall security architecture.
