FG Digital Device Loan: 5 Key Requirements to Qualify for Phone and Laptop Financing
The Federal Government has outlined key eligibility requirements for Nigerians seeking to benefit from its digital device financing initiative, designed to make smartphones, laptops and other essential technology devices more affordable through accessible loan facilities.
The programme is part of ongoing efforts to deepen digital inclusion, expand access to technology and empower citizens with the tools needed for education, entrepreneurship, remote work and participation in the digital economy. Eligible applicants can obtain approved devices through structured repayment plans, subject to meeting the programme’s conditions.
Among the major requirements for prospective beneficiaries is proof of a verifiable source of income or employment, which enables lenders to assess an applicant’s repayment capacity. Applicants are also expected to provide valid means of identification, such as a National Identity Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN) or other government-approved identity documents, depending on the financing partner’s guidelines.
In addition, intending beneficiaries must maintain an active bank account and provide accurate personal and financial information during the application process. A satisfactory credit assessment may also be required, while applicants must meet the age and other eligibility criteria stipulated under the loan scheme before approval can be granted.
The Federal Government said the initiative is aimed at bridging Nigeria’s digital divide by making modern technology more accessible to students, small business owners, professionals and other qualified citizens. Authorities believe wider access to digital devices will enhance productivity, improve digital literacy and support economic growth.
Interested Nigerians have been advised to carefully review the official application guidelines, ensure all required documents are complete and submit only accurate information to improve their chances of securing approval. Applicants are also encouraged to avoid fraudulent platforms and apply only through authorised channels participating in the scheme.
