How Oyebanji Secured a Landslide Victory in Ekiti: The Secrets Behind APC’s Dominant Win
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a resounding victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, securing a second term in office after defeating candidates of rival political parties by a wide margin. Official results showed that Oyebanji swept through the state’s 16 local government areas, reaffirming his political dominance and the continued strength of the APC in Ekiti State.
Political observers have attributed Oyebanji’s overwhelming victory to a combination of effective governance, grassroots mobilization, strategic political alliances, and widespread acceptance among the electorate. Throughout his first term, the governor maintained strong relationships with traditional rulers, community leaders, civil servants, artisans, youths, and various professional groups, creating a broad support base across the state.
One of the major factors behind the APC candidate’s success was the unity within the ruling party. Unlike opposition parties that struggled with internal disagreements and organizational challenges, the APC presented a united front, allowing the governor to focus on selling his administration’s achievements and future plans to voters across the state.
Another key element was the extensive grassroots campaign embarked upon by the governor and his supporters. The campaign structure reached virtually every ward and polling unit, ensuring that voters remained engaged and informed about the administration’s development projects and policy initiatives. This strategy helped the APC maintain strong support in both urban and rural communities.
Analysts also point to the influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s national leadership, whose backing further strengthened the party’s chances in the election. The governor benefited from the goodwill enjoyed by the ruling party among many voters who viewed continuity as the best option for sustaining ongoing development projects in the state.
Election results revealed that Oyebanji recorded commanding victories in major voting centres, including Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti West, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ikole, and several other local government areas. Even in areas considered strongholds of opposition candidates, the APC candidate emerged victorious, underscoring the depth of his support across the state.
The outcome has been described as a strong endorsement of the governor’s leadership style and governance record. Supporters believe the victory reflects public confidence in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth, education, healthcare, and social welfare programmes.
With the election concluded, attention is expected to shift toward the governor’s second-term agenda as residents look forward to the consolidation of ongoing projects and the delivery of more dividends of democracy across Ekiti State.
