Are Dapo Abiodun’s Media Aides Also Clueless?

When you really have nothing to offer as a politician, you jump on every comment by a perceived rival to score political points.

It is also not surprising that, despite the plethora of media aides jumping on themselves to please their master in Ogun State at the expense of taxpayers’ money, none of them can elevate discussions regarding good governance beyond eye service.

If their principal pretends not to know his right from his left, how can some of his media aides, who used to be respected media practitioners, descend so low as to try to rubbish good feedback from a builder and pathfinder for the Gateway State?

And if not for dirty politics by those who became governors after Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Ogun State should have been competing as a top investment destination with the likes of Lagos.

It is things like this that make one endorse godfatherism in politics because it is looking like an average Nigerian politician is not interested in good governance but in becoming an emperor immediately after being sworn into office.

Dapo Abiodun is an average politician.

Lagos is what it is today because the politicians there ensure the continuation of good governance, and this is largely due to the vision of the master strategist himself in ensuring that, despite political differences, the best interests of the state are paramount.

In response to an open letter by Otunba Daniel calling the governor’s attention to the state of the educational institutions in Ogun State and the need for him to ensure that the right things are done, the governor’s aides were instructed to start attacking the elite politician.

From all the available rejoinders read so far, it was so clear that none of these aides actually read and dissected what is contained in OGD’s letter before running mad.

The summary of the former governor’s letter is to correct the impression that all is well with the adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education by the federal government.

While appreciating the federal government for saving the institution from going into extinction due to underfunding by successive governments, he enumerated the disadvantages of such adoption to the people of Ogun State.

And since what is done is done, he then advised the Dapo-led administration to pump the funds meant for TASUED as a state-owned institution into the remaining other state-owned institutions in order for them not to suffer the same fate.

TASUED is an institution that the senator representing Ogun East at the National Assembly fought tooth and nail to make a legacy project as the first university of education in Africa at the time it was established.

Immediately after his tenure in office and due to political bad blood, the Sen. Ibikunle Amosun-led government—a government in which Dapo Abiodun was the governor’s right-hand man—decided to kill the school after the same Abiodun-led committee submitted a report that the state couldn’t afford to run the school in 2012.

This led to a protest in the school, and a student’s life was cut short. Amosun was also stoned with water when he visited the school because the students couldn’t fathom how their school should be put down despite the revenue accrued to the state or be used to settle political scores.

When Abiodun took over, there were also pockets of protests regarding underfunding by his government, where workers and lecturers were owed salaries running into several months despite the fact that the state’s allocation had tripled since President Ahmed Tinubu came into power.

Is it not shocking to know that this same institution, which he suffocated of funds, is located in Ogun East, the district where the governor is planning to contest as a senator in 2027? But we shouldn’t be surprised if the governor doesn’t know the value of good education. Ẹni tó mọ ìyí wúrà là á tà fún.

One rejoinder stood out, titled “‘I Gave You Political Space, Platform to Run for Senate,’ Abiodun Replies Daniel,” written by one of his media aides, Kayode Akinmade.

Akinmade is advised to sit his principal down very well to give him a proper account of how he, Abiodun, actually became governor before he starts beating his chest to be able to write on how Ogidi Omo became a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
