ADC Says Trump’s Letter Will Not Improve Tinubu’s Political Prospects
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed suggestions that a congratulatory letter from United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would strengthen the Nigerian leader’s political fortunes, insisting that international endorsements cannot replace good governance or address the country’s domestic challenges.
The opposition party argued that while diplomatic goodwill between Nigeria and the United States is important, the electorate will ultimately judge President Tinubu based on his administration’s performance in areas such as the economy, security, job creation and the cost of living.
According to the ADC, Nigerians are more concerned about policies that improve their daily lives than symbolic gestures from foreign leaders. The party maintained that no letter or endorsement from abroad would influence voters if the government fails to meet their expectations.
The party also reiterated its criticism of the Tinubu administration, urging the Federal Government to focus on addressing inflation, insecurity and other socio-economic challenges confronting the country rather than celebrating international recognition.
The remarks come amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties intensifying efforts to shape public opinion and strengthen their political narratives.
Despite the ADC’s position, supporters of the Tinubu administration have described the correspondence from President Trump as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing diplomatic engagement and international relevance under the current government.
