Atiku Accuses INEC of Aiding Efforts to Disenfranchise ADC, Opposition Parties

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of aiding what he described as efforts to disenfranchise the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition political parties ahead of future elections.
Atiku made the allegation while reacting to recent developments involving the electoral commission, claiming that INEC’s actions were designed to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and undermine opposition parties.
According to the former presidential candidate, the commission’s handling of internal disputes and candidate-related issues affecting opposition parties has raised concerns about the credibility and neutrality of the electoral process.
He alleged that the actions of the electoral body could weaken Nigeria’s multiparty democracy by limiting the ability of opposition parties to participate effectively in the country’s electoral process.
Atiku called on INEC to remain independent, impartial and committed to the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, urging the commission to treat all registered political parties fairly and without bias.
The former Vice President also appealed to Nigerians, civil society organisations and the international community to closely monitor developments within the electoral system to safeguard the integrity of future elections.
INEC has consistently maintained that its decisions are guided by the Constitution, the Electoral Act and relevant court judgments, insisting that it remains committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections.
The allegations come amid heightened political activities and alignments ahead of the next general elections, with opposition parties continuing to challenge actions they believe could affect their participation in the electoral process.
