Ogun 2027: More PDP Leaders Defect to APC as Yayi’s Governorship Bid Gains Momentum
The governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, received another political boost over the weekend as prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ogun West Senatorial District officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were formally received into the APC by Senator Adeola, further strengthening the growing support for his 2027 governorship ambition. Among those who joined the ruling party are Mrs. Adeyemi Kemi, a former Ogun State PDP Women Leader during the administration of former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and Mrs. Akinbo Iyabode Folusho, a former PDP Ogun West Senatorial Women Leader.
Their defection is widely seen as another significant endorsement of Senator Adeola’s political movement, which has continued to attract leaders and grassroots stakeholders from different political parties across Ogun State.
Political observers believe the latest development reflects the increasing momentum behind Yayi’s governorship project, particularly in Ogun West, where many leaders are rallying around what they describe as a collective aspiration to produce the state’s next governor.
The wave of defections also underscores a growing trend of cross-party support for the senator, with stakeholders setting aside political differences to align with his vision for Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
As preparations for the 2027 polls gather pace, Senator Adeola’s camp continues to witness an influx of political leaders and supporters, reinforcing perceptions that his governorship bid is gaining wider acceptance across the state.
The latest defections were facilitated by Suco of Ibara/Onisasa Ward 16, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, who described the move as part of the expanding grassroots support for Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition.
