APC Faults Opposition Over Failure to Meet INEC Candidate Submission Deadline

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised opposition political parties over their failure to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submitting the names of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, describing the development as a sign of poor preparation for the polls.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said it successfully completed the upload of its candidates’ details to the INEC portal before the original deadline, despite fielding candidates across various elective positions.
The ruling party argued that the inability of several opposition parties to comply with the electoral timetable raises concerns about their organisational capacity and readiness to govern. According to the APC, political parties that struggle to conclude their internal nomination processes may also face challenges in effectively managing public affairs if elected.
The APC maintained that strict adherence to the electoral timetable reflects discipline, competence and respect for democratic processes. It urged political parties to strengthen their internal structures and ensure compliance with electoral regulations ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party also noted that the electoral process requires all stakeholders to respect deadlines to guarantee a smooth and credible election, stressing that timely submission of candidates is a key responsibility of every registered political party.
Meanwhile, INEC approved a brief administrative extension to enable eligible political parties that encountered challenges to complete the upload of their candidates’ details before the close of the exercise.
