Victor Osimhen Reveals Plan to Return to School After Football Career

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that one of his biggest ambitions after retiring from football is to return to school and earn a university degree, stressing that a football career is temporary while education remains a lifelong asset.
The Galatasaray forward said he hopes to continue his academic journey after hanging up his boots, explaining that professional football typically lasts between 20 and 25 years and that he wants to prepare himself for life beyond the game.
Reflecting on his childhood, Osimhen disclosed that he dropped out of school while in Senior Secondary School (SSS 3) because of severe financial hardship. According to him, his family’s difficult circumstances forced him to take a major risk by focusing entirely on football in a bid to lift them out of poverty.
Despite the success that followed, the Nigerian international emphasized that his experience should not encourage young people to abandon their education. He described his journey as a rare “make-or-break” situation and urged aspiring footballers to combine sports with academic pursuits whenever possible.
Osimhen noted that he has already made investments for the future but remains determined to obtain a university degree after retirement. He said achieving academic success later in life would demonstrate that it is never too late to complete one’s education, regardless of career achievements.
The prolific striker has repeatedly encouraged young Nigerians to value education alongside their sporting ambitions, maintaining that academic qualifications provide opportunities and security beyond an athlete’s playing career. His latest remarks have drawn praise from football fans and education advocates, who see his message as an inspiration to young people across the country.
