Former IGP Suleiman Abba Resigns from APC After Four Years of Political Inactivity

Former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing an end to more than four years of political inactivity within the ruling party.
In a resignation letter dated April 15, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Kofar Fada Ward in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Abba said the letter was intended to formally confirm his withdrawal from the party.
The former police chief disclosed that he had not participated in any APC activities since June 10, 2022, including meetings at the ward, local government, state, and national levels. He also revealed that he deliberately stayed away from the party’s recent membership re-registration exercise, describing it as further evidence of his decision to leave the APC.
Abba expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for providing him with the platform to begin his political career. He recalled his unsuccessful bid to secure the party’s senatorial ticket for the Jigawa South Senatorial District ahead of the 2019 general elections, noting that his ambition ended before the primary election.
Despite leaving the ruling party, the former Inspector-General pledged to remain committed to public service and to continue working with leaders and stakeholders toward improving the welfare of the people of his ward, Jigawa State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Copies of the resignation letter were also forwarded to the APC chairmen at the local government and state levels, formally notifying the party of his decision to end his membership.
