Three Nigerian Students Represent Country at Global STEM Olympiad in Italy
Three exceptional Nigerian students are representing the country at the International STEM Olympiad Grand Finale in Rome, Italy, where they are competing with participants from more than 150 countries in one of the world’s most prestigious science and mathematics competitions.
The students—Egejurum Onyedikachi Ethan, Onwubiko Chimduebube Victor, and Don Anele Munachimso Marvelous—qualified to represent Nigeria in the Mathematics and Science categories of the global event, which is taking place at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma.
Their participation was made possible through the support of education technology entrepreneur and Educare CEO, Alex Onyia, who sponsored their travel, accommodation, visa processing, competition registration, and other logistics, ensuring they could compete on the international stage.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Onyia expressed confidence in the students’ abilities, describing them as brilliant young talents capable of competing with the best students from around the world.
Among the Nigerian representatives is Don Anele Munachimso Marvelous, who is participating in the senior science category and has earned recognition for his outstanding academic achievements, particularly in Chemistry.
Another team member, 11-year-old Egejurum Onyedikachi Ethan, is competing in the primary mathematics category. Despite already qualifying in mathematics, he also opted to compete in the science category, demonstrating exceptional academic ability and versatility.
The students’ participation comes at a time when funding constraints have limited Nigeria’s presence at some international academic competitions. Their journey has been widely hailed as an example of how private sector support can help talented young Nigerians gain global exposure and showcase their potential.
As the Olympiad continues in Rome, expectations remain high that the Nigerian team will perform strongly, promote the country’s academic excellence, and inspire more students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
