Speaking during a world press conference held on Wednesday at his private residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, Chief Fadairo described the decision as a personal one reached after careful reflection, stressing that it was not influenced by political pressure, persuasion, or any hidden agenda.

According to him, after spending several decades participating in Nigeria’s political process at both the state and national levels, he believes he has made his contributions to democratic development and that the time has come to step aside.

Chief Fadairo said his decision was guided by the belief that every stage of life has its purpose, noting that it was time to rest from active politics and focus on other areas of service.

He expressed profound appreciation to his family, political associates, supporters, well-wishers, and members of the media for their unwavering support throughout his political career, describing their encouragement as invaluable to his journey in public service.

The elder statesman declared that his retirement takes immediate effect, adding that he would no longer identify with or belong to any political party. Instead, he said he would assume the role of a father figure to all, maintaining political neutrality while promoting peace, unity, and the development of Ogun State.

Chief Fadairo also disclosed that he would dedicate more time to community development and the discharge of his traditional responsibilities as the Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of his community and Ogun State, explaining that his withdrawal from partisan politics would not diminish his passion for service but would enable him to contribute from a nonpartisan and advisory position.

“I remain committed to the development of my people and the progress of Ogun State. My decision simply marks the end of my active participation in partisan politics,” he said.

Chief Fadairo concluded by wishing his former political associates success in their future political endeavours and prayed for peace, unity, and continued development across the state and the nation.

His announcement marks the end of an era in Ogun politics, where he has remained an influential figure for decades, earning respect across political divides for his contributions to public service and community development.
