CAF Invites Bids to Host AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036
CAF has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), inviting all 54 member associations to submit their proposals.
The football governing body announced that the bidding exercise is part of its long-term strategy to strengthen the continent’s flagship football competition while ensuring a transparent, credible and ethical selection process that aligns with international best practices. It said the bidding framework was developed with the support of global consulting firm PwC, alongside technical, financial and legal advisers.
According to CAF, the Africa Cup of Nations remains Africa’s biggest sporting event and one of the most-watched football competitions globally, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and six billion digital views worldwide.
The organisation also reaffirmed that the 2027 AFCON, branded as the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Pamoja 2027, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
CAF stated that it will continue organising a major senior men’s national team competition every year except during FIFA World Cup years, adding that further details on the bidding process and other national team competitions will be announced in due course.
The invitation marks the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race among African nations seeking the opportunity to stage one of the continent’s most prestigious sporting events.
