Nigeria, UK Deepen Security Partnership with Expanded Counter-Terrorism Training
Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral security cooperation through expanded counter-terrorism training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving Nigeria’s response to terrorism and violent extremism.
The renewed collaboration was highlighted during the graduation of participants in an advanced counter-terrorism course jointly supported by Nigerian security agencies and the United Kingdom. The programme is designed to equip security personnel with modern strategies for intelligence gathering, crisis response, threat assessment, and counter-terrorism operations.
Officials from both countries stressed that terrorism continues to evolve, making it essential for security agencies to strengthen professional training, intelligence sharing, and operational coordination in tackling emerging threats.
The training programme also focuses on enhancing inter-agency collaboration, improving investigative skills, strengthening crisis management capabilities, and adopting international best practices in combating terrorism and organised crime.
Representatives of the Nigerian government described the partnership as a critical component of the country’s broader security strategy, noting that continuous training and international cooperation remain essential in addressing insecurity across the country.
The United Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security architecture through sustained technical assistance, specialised training, and knowledge exchange designed to improve the effectiveness of law enforcement and other security institutions.
Both countries expressed confidence that the expanded collaboration would further strengthen Nigeria’s ability to prevent terrorist activities, protect lives and property, and promote regional peace and stability.
The renewed partnership underscores the longstanding security relationship between Nigeria and the UK, with both nations pledging to continue working together to confront terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational organised crime.
