Ondo State Governor’s Special Adviser on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Princess Kikelomo Ikuomola, has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash that occurred in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The crash, which occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, has triggered mourning within the Nigerian Air Force and among the families and loved ones of the personnel who lost their lives.
Ikuomola, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the incident as a devastating tragedy, saying its occurrence in Ilaje made the loss particularly painful for her as an indigene of the area.
“As an indigene of Ilaje, this tragedy is particularly painful to me. Igbokoda is home, and it is deeply distressing to see such a devastating incident occur on our soil, involving brave men and women who dedicated their lives to the service and security of our nation,” she said.
She commiserated with the Nigerian Air Force, the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased personnel, describing their service to Nigeria as a sacrifice that should be remembered and honoured.
According to her, the personnel who died had answered the call to national duty and dedicated themselves to protecting the country.
While acknowledging the pain suffered by the bereaved families, Ikuomola prayed that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to cope with the loss and grant eternal rest to the deceased.
She also commended the Nigerian Air Force, security agencies, emergency responders and residents who participated in search and recovery operations at the crash site.
Ikuomola, however, stressed the need for authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
She called for a professional, thorough and transparent investigation to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.
She said lessons from the investigation should be used to strengthen safety measures and help prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy.
The Special Adviser further prayed for comfort for the bereaved families and strength for the Nigerian Air Force, stressing that the sacrifice of the personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty would not be forgotten.
