Zamfara LG Chairman Kidnapped as Bandits Kill Four Security Personnel
Armed bandits have abducted
the Chairman of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Shehu Tambari, after launching a deadly attack that claimed the lives of four security personnel escorting his convoy.
The incident occurred while the council chairman was travelling along a highway in Zamfara State. According to reports, the heavily armed assailants ambushed the convoy, opening fire on the security team before whisking the local government chairman away to an unknown destination.
The attack resulted in the death of four security operatives who reportedly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle in an attempt to protect the council boss. Several others were said to have sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
Security agencies have since launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to secure the safe release of the abducted chairman and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on whether any contact has been established with the kidnappers.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges confronting Zamfara State, where armed banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on communities have continued despite ongoing military operations. Residents have repeatedly called for intensified security measures to protect lives and property across the state.
The abduction has sparked renewed concerns over the growing threat posed by criminal gangs operating in Nigeria’s North-West, with stakeholders urging the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve surveillance, and intensify operations against armed bandits to restore lasting peace in the region.
