YABATECH Honours Senator Solomon Adeola with Distinguished Fellowship Award
The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, has bestowed its prestigious Fellowship Award—Fellow of the Yaba College of Technology (FYCT)—on Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District. The honour was conferred during the institution’s 37th Convocation Ceremony held over the weekend.
The recognition marks yet another academic honour for Senator Adeola, who previously received the Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FFPI) award for his notable contributions to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
Receiving the award on behalf of the senator, Honourable Bolaji Oyeleye accepted the plaque from YABATECH’s Rector, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul. The Rector stated that the fellowship was a testament to Senator Adeola’s unwavering support for the institution and his long-standing commitment to educational development—particularly YABATECH’s decade-long pursuit of university status.
Although absent due to unavoidable commitments, Senator Adeola expressed his appreciation through a message delivered at the event. He reaffirmed his deep belief in education as the backbone of national development, noting that his legislative efforts to elevate YABATECH to a University of Technology have been consistent and intentional.
He recalled sponsoring bills to upgrade the institution during the 8th and 9th Senate assemblies—efforts which saw significant progress but did not conclude before the end of those legislative sessions.
Senator Adeola applauded Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele for reintroducing the bill in the current 10th National Assembly, which ultimately secured passage and presidential assent. The Appropriations Committee Chairman hailed the upgrade as a transformative step toward strengthening Nigeria’s technological workforce.
The senator extended heartfelt gratitude to the management, governing council, staff, and students of YABATECH for the honour, saying the fellowship serves as further motivation to expand his support for educational initiatives, including infrastructure development, scholarships, and bursary programmes.
He pledged full legislative backing as YABATECH transitions from a polytechnic into a full-fledged University of Technology.
The award presentation was witnessed by his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Adeola, supporters, and well-wishers who turned out to celebrate the distinguished recognition.
