World Environment Day: Ondo Government Reaffirms Support for Aiyetoro Flood Victims
The Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting residents of Aiyetoro Community in Ilaje Local Government Area as part of efforts to address the devastating impact of recurring sea incursion and flooding affecting the coastal settlement.
The assurance was given during a humanitarian visit to the community to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day. The delegation included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Princess Kikelomo Ikuomola, alongside other government officials and stakeholders.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Ikuomola conveyed the sympathy of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to the affected residents, assuring them that the administration remains deeply concerned about their welfare and is committed to implementing practical and sustainable measures to mitigate the environmental challenges confronting the community.
She emphasized that the well-being of the people remains a top priority for the state government, noting that ongoing efforts are focused on providing relief, strengthening resilience, and exploring long-term solutions to protect lives and property from the devastating effects of coastal erosion and flooding.
According to her, the plight of Aiyetoro serves as a stark reminder of the growing threat posed by climate change and environmental degradation to coastal communities across Nigeria. She stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, development partners, environmental experts, and community leaders to address the challenges and safeguard vulnerable populations.
Hon. Ikuomola further called for increased environmental awareness and collective action in promoting sustainable practices capable of reducing the impact of climate-related disasters on communities.
The visit highlighted the Ondo State Government’s determination to stand with affected residents while pursuing lasting interventions that will restore hope and improve living conditions in Aiyetoro and other environmentally vulnerable communities across the state.
