Abducted Kebbi Islamic Cleric Dies in Bandits’ Captivity Amid Growing Security Concerns

A respected Islamic cleric in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammad Maibarga, has reportedly died while in the custody of bandits months after his abduction, deepening concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the cleric’s death following reports that he passed away while being held by his captors in a remote area of Koko-Besse Local Government Area. The late cleric was widely known for his religious teachings and contributions to the Muslim community.
According to security sources, Maibarga was abducted by armed bandits alongside other victims during an attack in the area. Despite efforts by family members, community leaders, and security agencies to secure his freedom, the cleric reportedly did not survive the harsh conditions of captivity.
