Wike Draws Red Line, Backs Tinubu But Rejects Blank Cheque for APC in 2027
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has drawn a clear boundary around his political alliance with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that his support for the President’s re-election should not be interpreted as an automatic endorsement of All Progressives Congress candidates in other contests.
Wike’s position introduces a fresh dimension into the emerging political calculations ahead of 2027, particularly in Rivers State, where control of political structures and the battle for elective positions remain highly contentious.
The former Rivers State governor has maintained his support for Tinubu despite his longstanding political roots outside the APC, but he has now made it clear that the arrangement has limits.
His position effectively separates the presidential election from governorship, National Assembly and other electoral contests, suggesting that his political camp could support Tinubu at the top while pursuing different interests in other races.
The declaration could have significant implications for the APC, particularly in Rivers State, where Wike remains an influential political figure and where alliances have undergone major changes since the 2023 general elections.

For now, the FCT Minister’s position appears unequivocal — Tinubu can count on his support in the presidential race, but other APC candidates may have to fight their own political battles.
