He noted that difficult economic decisions are often required to build a more resilient and competitive nation.
According to the diplomat, President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated commitment to implementing reforms aimed at improving fiscal sustainability, attracting foreign direct investment, strengthening public finances and creating an enabling environment for private sector growth. He added that consistency in policy implementation would be essential to achieving the desired economic outcomes.
The envoy also highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in key areas, including trade, investment, education, security, governance and climate resilience. He expressed confidence that continued collaboration between both countries would deepen economic ties and create new opportunities for businesses and investors.
He further commended Nigeria’s resilience in navigating global economic headwinds and encouraged sustained efforts to diversify the economy, improve infrastructure and enhance the ease of doing business. According to him, these measures would strengthen investor confidence and position Nigeria for sustainable economic growth in the years ahead.
The outgoing High Commissioner expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, stressing that the success of the ongoing reforms would depend on continued political will, effective implementation and broad stakeholder support. He said the country’s vast human and natural resources provide a solid foundation for long-term prosperity if current reform efforts are sustained.
