Ogun 2027: Bolaji Adeniji Says Yayi’s Emergence Signals APC Unity and Electoral Strength
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Convener of the Ogun West Initiative, Olootu Bolaji Adeniji, has described the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election as a reflection of the party’s unity, strength, and widespread acceptance across Ogun State.
Speaking during a media engagement in Abeokuta, Adeniji said the consensus process that produced Senator Adeola remains one of the most peaceful and widely accepted primary exercises in the political history of Ogun State.
According to him, the endorsement of Yayi received unprecedented support from key stakeholders, including the incumbent governor, former governors, former deputy governors, federal and state lawmakers, party leaders, and delegates from across the 20 local government areas of the state.
He noted that the APC primary election further affirmed the senator’s popularity, pointing out that Adeola secured an overwhelming victory with more than 304,000 votes, emerging as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adeniji dismissed criticisms and legal challenges arising from the primary election, insisting that the process was transparent, credible, and reflective of the wishes of party members. He maintained that attempts to undermine the outcome of the exercise would not distract the APC from its preparations for the general election.
The APC stalwart also criticized opposition figures seeking to challenge the party’s dominance in the state, arguing that the ruling party remains firmly rooted among the people due to its record of governance and grassroots support.
On renewed debates surrounding Senator Adeola’s ancestry and indigeneship, Adeniji described the issue as a settled matter, stressing that the senator’s connection to Ogun State, particularly Yewaland, is well established and widely accepted by residents.
He urged political opponents to focus on issues of governance, policy, and development rather than what he described as outdated political narratives that no longer resonate with the electorate.
Commenting on the recent resignation of former presidential adviser Senator Iyabo Obasanjo from the APC following the party’s governorship primary, Adeniji said her decision would not affect the fortunes of the party ahead of the 2027 election.
According to him, the APC remains united and focused on retaining power in Ogun State, while consolidating on the achievements recorded by the current administration.
He expressed confidence that Senator Adeola would unveil a comprehensive development agenda and economic blueprint capable of accelerating growth, creating opportunities for young people, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall welfare of residents.
Adeniji called on Ogun people to support the APC candidate, describing Yayi as a tested public servant with a track record of legislative performance, grassroots engagement, and commitment to the development of the state.
He added that the 2027 governorship election presents an opportunity for Ogun State to sustain its development trajectory under visionary leadership, urging party members and supporters to remain united as preparations for the campaign gather momentum.
