In its ongoing counterterrorism efforts, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed multiple waves of airstrikes on March 26, 2025, targeting terrorist strongholds in Borno State. The strikes were part of the sustained tempo of operations in the North-East aimed at disrupting insurgent activities.
A statement by the NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, revealed that the operation focused on terrorist positions in Warawara, Wajiroko, and Chinene in the Mandara Mountains. The NAF’s precise targeting, guided by detailed intelligence, led to significant destruction of terrorist assets and casualties among the insurgents.
“Following intelligence gathered from Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, the NAF identified key terrorist positions, including logistics hubs and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) setups near Wajiroko,” Ali stated. The first wave of airstrikes targeted the logistics hub, destroying terrorist gun trucks and critical supplies. Subsequent strikes used sustained rocket and cannon fire to annihilate additional insurgent assets.
Later in the day, NAF aircraft struck another terrorist enclave at Chinene, which had been identified as a relocation site after a previous airstrike on Degbewa earlier in March. The air raids targeted active structures, setting the terrorists’ hideouts ablaze. The fleeing insurgents were engaged and neutralized, dealing a further blow to their operational capacity.
The air interdiction mission resulted in the destruction of four gun trucks, two Toyota Hilux vehicles, and several makeshift shelters, forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions. “Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the neutralization of numerous terrorist fighters, significantly degrading their capabilities,” Ali added.
The NAF’s successful air operations underscore its commitment to eliminating insurgent threats, disrupting their supply chains, and reclaiming territory for peace and security in Nigeria’s North-East region.
