ICPC Questions Gbajabiamila Over Alleged PFIPC Fraud Scandal
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly questioned the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), a body the Federal Government has maintained does not exist.
The questioning is part of a wider investigation ordered by President Bola Tinubu into allegations of forgery, impersonation and the unlawful operation of the purported government agency. Investigators are examining claims relating to forged appointment letters, unauthorized official activities and the alleged inclusion of the disputed council in the 2026 national budget.
The Presidency has consistently insisted that the PFIPC was never established by the Federal Government, describing individuals who claimed to be officials of the council as impostors. Police investigations have already led to criminal charges against the alleged self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, and other suspects over offences including forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.
Gbajabiamila has repeatedly denied any connection to the alleged fraud. Through his legal team, the Chief of Staff has also instituted a ₦10 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi, insisting that the allegations linking him to the PFIPC scandal are false, malicious and intended to tarnish his reputation.
The PFIPC controversy has continued to attract national attention, with political stakeholders, legal experts and civil society organisations demanding a thorough and transparent investigation. The outcome of the ICPC probe is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged fake agency and determine whether additional prosecutions or administrative actions will follow.
