FG Announces Partial Closure of Ikorodu-Sagamu Road for Reconstruction Works
The Federal Government has announced a partial closure of the busy Ikorodu-Sagamu Road to allow for ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation works aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety along the corridor.
The Federal Ministry of Works disclosed that the temporary traffic diversion became necessary to facilitate smooth execution of the road reconstruction project without causing total disruption to motorists and residents using the route daily.
According to the ministry, the affected section of the road will experience controlled traffic movement while construction activities continue. Motorists have been advised to cooperate with traffic officials and use alternative routes where necessary to reduce congestion during the reconstruction period.
The government explained that the rehabilitation project forms part of broader efforts to improve critical road infrastructure across Nigeria and enhance transportation efficiency between Lagos and Ogun states.
Officials also assured commuters that adequate traffic management measures would be put in place to minimise inconvenience and ensure safety throughout the construction process.
Road users, transport operators, and residents around the axis have been urged to exercise patience as the project is expected to bring long-term economic and transportation benefits upon completion.
The Ikorodu-Sagamu Road remains one of the major transport corridors linking Lagos to several parts of Ogun State and other regions in the Southwest, making it a critical route for commercial and passenger movement.
Many commuters have repeatedly raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of sections of the road, traffic congestion, and safety challenges affecting motorists and businesses operating along the corridor.
The Federal Government maintained that the reconstruction project is designed to improve road durability, ease transportation challenges, and support economic activities within the affected communities.
