Momodu Cautions Tinubu Against Being Misled by Political Defections Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has warned that many individuals around President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be giving him a misleading picture of the country’s political reality ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Momodu said the growing wave of politicians defecting to the ruling party should not be mistaken for genuine public support. According to him, many politicians who change parties often do so for personal political survival and strategic advantage rather than out of true commitment to governance or ideology.
He noted that such developments could create the impression that the administration enjoys widespread support, whereas many ordinary Nigerians are still grappling with economic hardship and other challenges.
Momodu therefore advised the President to remain cautious about relying on political defections as a measure of popularity. He stressed that loyalty in Nigerian politics can easily shift depending on circumstances.
He further urged the government to focus more on addressing the needs of citizens and strengthening democratic institutions, noting that the political landscape could change significantly before the 2027 elections.
